As we work towards Thanksgiving and ponder those people, places, memories and things we are thankful for, we inevitably stumble across past memories and events, even people, that we have anger and bitterness towards.
Not everything is great and there are some things which challenge us as we look back at them.
“Problems don’t go away. They must be worked through or else they remain, forever a barrier to the growth and development of the spirit” Scott Peck – The Road Less Traveled
Thanksgiving shouldn’t be false, shallow and thinly veiled, it should be a deep appreciation of those things, no matter how small, that you are truly grateful for. Don’t gloss over the pain and difficulty in your life, work it through. You won’t have thankfulness if you are avoiding dealing with past and current problems, you’ll just have a nagging sense that you aren’t really satisfied.
What are you thankful for? What keeps you from deeper gratitude and satisfaction? Is it unresolved pain?
