Recently I was re-reading the book The Power of Full Engagement. It’s a book full of good ideas for how to implement new routines and habits in your life. I recommend it for those setting out new goals for 2012.
The authors lay out one of the main challenges of reaching new goals and heights: our ability and propensity to convince ourselves that we are not the problem.
“We all have an infinite capacity for self-deception”
This rang true for me. Whether it’s regarding how faithful I’ve been to my diet and exercise routine, or just how nice I’ve been to others, I tend to give myself the benefit of the doubt. We all do. The only way to move forward is to be honest about your own performance, habits, and impact on others.
What do you do to keep from deceiving yourself? How do you keep an honest, yet positive, perspective on life? Share your thoughts with me.
