There is perhaps no area where americans are blessed in abundance, with the possible exception of televisions per household, than in the area of vehicles. Having spent most of the previous decade working in third world Latin America, I can tell you that most of the world doesn’t know what it is to have their own vehicle, let alone to have vehicles for different occasions and in abundance.
Yet many ordinary, middle class couples think nothing of having three or four cars for just two adults in the house. Because there are more cars than drivers, often there is one or two cars that sit around the majority of the time.
At the risk of sounding like a bleeding heart, now is the time to think carefully about how that car could be used to improve the life of a homeless child right here in Pierce County.
Vehicle donation is one great way to make sure that the surplus in your life is going to a useful purpose, maximizing not just the charitable good that can be done, but maximizing your personal impact on others.
When you consider that a donated 1981 Honda Accord LX, which might be sold for around $3000. could be use to feed meals to nearly 1400 homeless children, you can begin to see how easy it would be to make a big impact with one gesture of kindness.
Here’s a few ways to think of car donations:
Do you have a car left to you by a parent that has passed away?
Do you have an old car that the kids used to drive to college?
Do you have a car that you drive less than once a month?
Do you have a car that needs a little work to get running, but is otherwise good?
If you have ever thought of giving your vehicle to make a difference, the time is now. I’ve personally had the privilege of donating a vehicle, and it feels great.
